| Prescribed burn planned for the Chu Chua area KAMLOOPS – The BC Wildfire Service will be supporting Simpcw First Nation and Chu Chua Volunteer Fire Department in conducting a prescribed burn covering up to 27 hectares, in Chu Chua, 10 kilometres north of the municipality of Barriere. Smoke and flames may be visible to the surrounding community, Barriere and to motorists travelling along Highway 5. The exact timing of this burn will depend on weather and site conditions, but it could begin as early as April 3, 2025. Burning will proceed if conditions are suitable and allow for smoke dispersal during burn operations, though smoke may also linger in the following days. Key goals of this prescribed burn include: returning a natural and necessary process to the land base removing forest fuels to reduce the long-term risk of wildfire critical cross training opportunities for the Simpcw First Nation, Chu Chua Volunteer Fire Department and BC Wildfire Service | |
