Protection, Conservation and Management of Natural Resources

The Natural Resource Department (NRD) works in partnership with Simpcw Administration and Council, and is committed to the protection, conservation, and management of resources within Simpcwúl̓ecw.

The Natural Resource Department (NRD) is responsible for the overall health, conservation, protection and management of land and resources within Simpcwu̓l̓ecw. NRD performs the “on the ground” work related to research, archaeology, cultural heritage, environment and wildlife protection.

The Natural Resource Department is responsible for monitoring any activity or project that could impact the multitude of resources found in Simpcw Territory. NRD is involved in many different aspects of industry, and is capable of providing the following services: 

  • Contract negotiation, supervision and management;
  • Title & Rights research and coordination;
  • Contract and finance management of natural Resource- Related projects;
  • Territorial Stewardship Planning;
  • R.au.Sh Indigenous Protected and Conserved Area;
  • Independent Environmental Assessment Process;
  • Organizing community meetings and info sessions for specific projects; 
  • Fisheries enumeration, habitat restoration, hatchery management, education, conservation and protection of fish stocks;
  • Referrals management;
  • Archaeological and Cultural Heritage surveys, investigations, and monitoring (PFR, AOA, AIA); and
  • Engagement and/or participation on Wildlife habitat protection and restoration projects.
