Educational Programs and Updates

Simpcw is dedicated to creating a self-governing, inclusive community of confident, culturally-skilled lifelong learners. Accomplished educators and the support of family and community guide students in excellent educational environments, ensuring that all learners possess strong communication and numeracy skills and the ability to identify clear life paths.

The Education Coordinator oversees the Simpcw First Nation Band Education Department, working with students of all ages to achieve their long-term goals. The Education Coordinator provides services for students in Elementary, Secondary and Post-Secondary school.

The Education Coordinator’s services include:

  • Providing support to students to ensure successful completion of studies
  • Coordination of financial and administrative tasks required to provide funding and services to students
  • Maintenance of records and files for student information
  • Sit on the School District #73 Aboriginal Education Council ~ Responsibilities of the Council include: identifying program priorities, setting the annual Targeted Funding budget, developing the strategic plan for Aboriginal Education in the District, and initiating program reviews

Elementary/ Secondary Services:

  • Ensuring the Local Education Agreement is maintained.  
  • Working with teachers and/or parents/guardians to provide tutoring for students.
  • Working with parents (by request) to improve education outcomes for students.
  • Attends planning meetings with parents and students.
  • Liaise with SD 73 First Nation Support Workers to confirm enrollment of Simpcw students

Post-Secondary Services:

  • Intake and review Post-Secondary funding applications
  • Work with post-secondary students to ensure that all applications and policies are understood and followed
  • Providing support to students to ensure successful completion of post-secondary studies
  • Funding is available for eligible Simpcw members to attend post-secondary education. To apply, interested students must contact the SFN Education Department or download the application package from our website. The deadline for applications is February 25th. Events:

  • Career & Job Fair ~ 1st Thursday of February
  • Day of Sucwentwecw ~ April of each year
  • Graduation Celebration and Ceremony for all students ~ 1st Thursday of June
  • Plan and coordinate with other SFN departments for community events and activities as needed

Tutoring Program:

  • All SFN students qualify for tutoring services in Elementary, Secondary, or Post-Secondary studies, if needed. To apply, contact the Education Coordinator for forms and details.
  • SFN Education Department is always accepting applications for tutors, wages are negotiable.
