G2G Government to Government
Simpcw, a Secwépemc campfire, has inherent and unextinguished Title and Rights to the land and resources in Simpcwúĺecw (Simpcw Territory), which is within Secwepemcúlecw (Secwépemc Territory).
Under the direction of the Chief and Council and the Natural Resource Department, Government to Government (G2G) supports Simpcw’s assertion of their Title and Rights and it encompasses the interactions between Simpcw First Nation and the Province of British Columbia. G2G seeks opportunities to advance discussions with the Province of BC on ways for Simpcw to economically benefit from the resources within Simpcwúĺecw and have a say in the stewardship of the tmícw (land, air, minerals, and resources).
Simpcw's G2G initiatives are focused in two ways:
1.
Simpcw is one of eight Secwépemc communities that signed the Skú7pecen’s Journey Letter of Commitment (SJLoC) with the Province of BC forming the Qwelmínte Secwépemc (QS) government to government table. BC is represented by the Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation, Ministry of Forests, Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship, Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change Strategy, and the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation. Simpcw is an active and engaged participant at the table.
2.
G2G actively creates opportunities for the Simpcw campfire by building relationships with the Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation, Ministry of Forests & BC Timber Sales, Ministry of Water, Land, and Resource Stewardship, and Ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation. Simpcw holds regular meetings with each of the government agencies to improve communication and to advance strategic initiatives for the benefit of Simpcw.
