Simpcw Process Committee – Yellowhead Project

Today, July 16th, 2026, Simpcw and the Province of British Columbia announced the signing of a consent-based decision-making agreement for the proposed Yellowhead Copper Project.

This agreement establishes how Simpcw and the Province will work together throughout the environmental assessment process. It recognizes that both Simpcw’s consent and a provincial environmental assessment certificate are required before the proposed project can proceed.

As Ku̓kwpi7 George Lampreau shared:

“This marks the first time Simpcw has applied our consent process to a major project, and it is an important milestone for our Nation… Community members will be involved every step of the way, shaping the process and fostering a genuine sense of ownership in both the process and the outcome.”
